The Deadwood Depot was originally constructed in 1897 for the Elkhorn Railroad
Co. and remained in operation until 1942 when the railroad stopped serving Deadwood, SD.

In 1989, the City reinstated legalized gaming and allocated 25% of the profits to the restoration of the community's historic buildings.

Restoration of the Depot included the removal of 1950 building modifications to return the building to its original form. Slate shingles, brick walls, and the breeze way were replaced. Interior restoration was completed and fixtures were designed to match the original components used.
