The goal of the project was to design a world-class museum to enclose and protect the sinkhole and the in-situ exhibit of the world's largest collection of Columbian mammoth bones.

The structural design needed to accommodate the fact that over 21,000 sf of the 28,000 sf facility would be used to cover the sinkhole itself.

The building was designed as an earth-bermed structure to visually reduce the 20-foot walls to approximately six feet by berming the lower 13 feet and creating a building in scale with the neighborhood.
