The City of Rapid City and the Rapid City School District partnered in building two Community Centers. During the day, students fill the buildings for gym classes, assemblies, and intramural activities. In the evening, the spaces are used by men, women and children of all ages for city recreation programs.
Unique features of the projects included: Partial day-lighting of the spaces via large north and south facing eyebrow windows; A resilient Pulastic floor; Fascia panels on exterior walls to preheat outdoor air in the winter, reducing the amount of energy required to heat the air indoors.
