Box Elder, SD has limited staff resources, although the community continues to expand as both a bedroom community for Rapid City and as a center of commerce. Because of its proximity to Ellsworth AFB, long-range City planning is required to ensure that Box Elder meets and exceeds the needs of this important neighbor. Box Elder hired FourFront to create its latest zoning and land use maps using GIS for city planning purposes. To create the official zoning, existing land use, and future land use data layers, digital parcel data from Pennington and Meade Counties was used as the base layer. In the GIS parcel layer, polygons were assigned zoning and land use field attributes and then symbolized based on their values. In addition, FourFront provides Box Elder with other data layer development, on-demand mapping, and data analysis output for a variety of projects. |
