Four mountain bike trail maps were designed and produced for the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department using ArcView GIS software. The purpose of the maps was to provide information on how to access the bike trails and to describe trail conditions. The maps were 11x17 in size, two-sided, and folded to pocket size. Each map's layout included two maps - a regional map on one side showing the trail location relative to major roads and on the reverse side a shaded relief map showing details of the trail route. Topographic profiles of each trail were developed using ArcView 3D Analyst and provided useful information as to the length of the trail, changes in elevation, and location of landmarks. Trail difficulty ratings, water availability, and trail segment distances were summarized in a table and warnings and advisories explained trail rules. |
