For this project, GIS was used to determine the lengths of water pipeline on the properties of two land owners. The need for accurate measurements of the pipeline lengths arose because of a legal dispute between the land owners. Existing maps with sketches of pipeline locations were georeferenced and pipeline and land ownership boundaries were digitized and attributed with ownership information. Pipeline lengths owned by each land owner were calculated and summed using GIS, and the information assisted in the settlement of the legal dispute.
