Rapid City needed a way to manage stormwater drainage information beyond what was written in the City's twenty Drainage Basin Design Plans. These plans have been written over the last 20 years and vary in their content and format. They City chose FourFront Design's GIS department to develop an asset management system for its stormwater system, which currently covers about a 60 square mile area. Pertinent data from the DBDPs were added as tabulated attributes in the GIS data layers. Complied information included drainage element status, type, description, recommendations, and design flows at build out. A total of 909 drainage elements were inventoried, assessed in the field, and photographed, The photos were hyperlinked to the GIS elements and included descriptions. GIS analysis of the compiled data provided statistical information on the existing and proposed drainage features, their condition and physical assessment. |
